What is Reproductive Endocrinology?

Reproductive medicine is a field of medicine specialized in hormonal problems that pertain to reproduction and infertility at any stage of life.  While most OB/GYN-REI specialists are focused in the infertility component of this field, Dr. Glueck has expertise in the overall treatment of hormonal dysfunction in both men and women. In women, reproductive hormone problems often cause problems such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), early or natural menopause, and infertility.  Symptoms of reproductive hormone problems include abnormal periods, testosterone excess (with acne, hair growth and hair thinning), low libido and sexual dysfunction, ovarian dysfunction, as well as infertility issues.  In men, reproductive hormone problems can cause low testosterone and infertility. Symptoms of reproductive hormone problems in men include loss of sex drive and erectile dysfunction, loss of virilization including fatigue and decreased muscle mass, as well as infertility issues.

In addition to Reproductive Endocrinology and Thyroidology, Dr. Glueck takes care of patients with all general endocrinology diagnoses including pituitary, adrenal, bone and calcium balance problems. Dr. Glueck does not see patients with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. If you call our office, we will be happy to give you some referrals in the area for endocrinologists that focus in diabetes.

No one can feel like their normal self if hormones are out of balance. Too much or too little of any hormone can have undesirable effects on well being and health. Endocrine problems can present with a large range of issues including fatigue, loss of energy, weight gain, mood changes, skin or hair problems, and temperature intolerance.  It is very important to see an endocrinologist if a hormone imbalance is suspected.  Specialized blood work will help determine what treatment is necessary to regain hormonal health.
